Recommendations for a low cost 10" sub?

Postby Evan55 » Fri Jun 20, 2008 11:16 am

Hi Guys,
Im in the market for a single 10" car sub. My primary goal is sound quality. Nice tight and accurate bass. I dont drive them super loud or thump them. The enclosure is fairly small, and the amp isnt huge either. Dual voice coils would be preferable but not a necessity. Goal is to be under $100 delivered (preferably under $80)
Now I know to a certain extent you get what you pay for, but I know that often times, especially in audio, there is that gem that performs way better than it should for the money.
Ive been looking at the RE Audio RE10D4. For around $65 delivered off of ebay the price is perfect, but I havent been able to find many reviews of the sub.
There is some other stuff like MA Audio on ebay but I cant tell if those suck or not.
I was considering eD (and I dont mean erectile dysfunction), but after reading some threads on here about them I doubt anyone would recommend them

Any recommendations would are appreciated!
thanks

Honestly I would wait until the new Stereo Integrity BM comes out in a couple weeks. It's 149 shipped, but I would say it will be worth the extra 50. Otherwise, I'm not sure how much they go for used, but Image Dynamics makes a good SQ woofer. Might be able to find one of those on ebay. and stay far away from ED (both kinds, if possible :) ). May also be able to find an older JL W6.

Best bang for the buck is a Partsexpress Dayton reference HO or HF, hands down for output and SQ... Will beat anything new at that price... Check em' out...

I have used maybe 10 of them in the last year or so...

I second 95Honda's advice. Those are plain awesome subs at any price.

Shiva is a very good driver also... boils down to reliability IMO. Partsexpress has it, anything that even hints Dan Wiggins (Shiva) could be questionable. I'm not bashing Dan, he designed some of the if not the best subwoofers ever, but I would be cautious of anything or anyone he deals with... Just my 2 cents...
