I stood up for one product that has worked flawlessly for me. Would you change if you had no reason to?

I never claimed to be a professional, either. I do, however, have extensive experience in all things networking(from the mac lc2's when I was wayyy young to more recently and importantly netware and windows based networks) and general IT. I don't just feel like I have been doing it for a decade, I HAVE been doing it for a decade. I am very blessed to have had unlimited access to anything computer related within the school system, which allowed me to learn and gain experience a lot sooner than most people. Also, I own and operate a business which produces computer-based industrial diagnostic equipment for the trucking industry. I'm certainly not saying that I am more qualified than any of you as I am sure I am not, but I do feel I should be taken seriously.

You're certainly correct in that my experience at 25 and 30 will be much greater. That's just the nature of things. It would be a sad day for me if I had nothing else to learn. Like I said at the start, I stood up for one product and tried to provide some evidence as to why i believe what I do. I don't think I ever came across with a condescending or know-it-all attitude and apologize if I did.

As far as the moron and shut the corn hole stuff goes, I was just screwin around with him and I'm pretty sure he knew that.

In a word, yes.

I try/sample new pieces of software/hardware weekly, it's a part of what I do for a living/hobby. It's hard to say you know anything when you only know what you are familiar with and have a closed mind to the unknown.

So I tried Avast as well as a couple online scanners and none came up with anything worth mentioning. Where's a shrugs smilie when you need one?

One reason I don't spend time trying out new software is because that isn't part of my job. I run a business and am in college right now and don't have time for much else. I don't deal with software other windows, the diagnostic, and a few special apps I developed for the diagnostic carts. Hardware is a different story. I'm betting I've got some stuff in there you've never seen or heard of, most of which is really, really cool! I really wish I could tell you more but until the patent goes through I can't say much. I do more hardware testing and development than anything else. My mind definitely isn't closed ;)

running the 32 bit version of vista shaff.... had it since early feb. Pros & cons.... the biggest pro.... much better internet security. But if you were a firefox person to begin with... that was never a big issue

virus scaners are for people who don't know how to use computers... In the office... yeah, makes sense... but at home.... c'mon, waste of clock cycles & energy.

yeah, I came to those conclusions based on all the chit chat. I'm going to end up doing the same damn thing I did with windows 98... keep xp until you can no longer use new programs on it.

i gotta tell ya, i just got a hold of norton 07 and oh my god, i hate it.

its the biggest pain in the *** ive ever dealt with. you CANNOT turn off weekly scans, you can change the date, time, but you cannot turn it off.

and the automatic updates... i turn off 'automatically download and install' and simply set to 'notify when available' but then if you decide to download the updates, you must uncheck a box or else it'll set 'automatically download and install' to ON.

I run an old norton corporate, I have to manually dload the updates now as the even the new auto thing will not work. It must be from before '00 but still works. It is at 29meg now on w2k. I have a gig, I have turned it off for games but it matters little. LOL, I paid more for this w2k than the new XP out when I built this machine! I still don't want XP let alone vista but I need to do a new machine so...

I can't remember the last time I got a virus detected. I have never had one affect this machine and have had none at all for years. Between a hard firewall and ISPs scanning it seems to be worthless, plus I shut my machines off all the way when not in use. Even this old norton liked to do its own thing, you had to get into the right files and settings to get a leash on it....IT people liked it because idiot downloaders in the office could not shut it off.

MS is such a clueless giant, there is all this **** in there and hardly anyone uses most of it yet you can't get rid of it. I have a old dual boot linux/w2k and the w2k is certainly slower and less capable. Sounds like vista is yet another bandaided, bloated pile of half***ed code. At least w2k was built on nt and somewhat stable. The last service pack slowed this one down though, typical MS and I am 99% sure on purpose. I will not buy a game that won't run w2k, there are plenty to choose from. I bet my momo will not work on vista either.

It's times like this I wonder why I feel like time stands still in the land of innovation...along with our 1960s phone and air control systems....duh....ancient space shuttle....the list is too long. And what POs me is that often stuff you buy at normal price is a throw away pos, it is not better than what you had.
