New computers is c00l

Postby Thoraudio » Tue May 01, 2007 8:14 pm

got a new comp at work today. Besides being a pain in the @$$ to set it up the way I like, new gears is cool. E6400 (Dual core 2.13 mhz), gig of ram, etc...

It's got a gigabyte lan connection. And apparently, we've got a killer connection at work.

I went to download FF 2.0, and it said 'done' almost instantly. I thought I'd pulled one of those moves where you accidentally download a link, instead of the file. But when I looked again, it said download 5.72 mb/s.

:cwm16:

So, went and downloaded WMP11. averaged 4 mb/s over a 25 meg download.

:cwm16:

went and did a download test, and it peaked at ~9000 kb/s

:cwm16:

ohhhhh I wish I had this connection at home. :)

And it's got a decent video card too, X1300.

I don't usually game at work, but it's a step up from the onboard video it used to have, and from my ancient 9600XT at home, so I dug around in my desk and found Unreal Tournament (not 2k4.... the original).

Popped that in there, maxed every setting, and smiled. Just imagined it was 2002, and I had the *****inest computer on the block. :cwm11:
whyfore is I here?

I do that with quake 2. Of course, with quake 4, I'm damn close to maxing out every setting anyhow.

i wouldn't exactly call x1300 a decent video card....1 step up from onboard i guess, and if its running vista... you'll prolly want 2 gigs in that computer pretty soon.

Better than nothing though. And certainly decent for a run-of-the-mill office computer.

I've been so tempted in the past, it's not even funny....

"hey.... when did you get this cheap no-name monitor? I thought we got you a nice HP?.... and I swore you had a Pentium 6400.... not a celeron D."

Or you could bump it up to this and get the really funny looks from people as you make air traffic control noises and laugh.

I gots two opteron 250's, two BFG 7800gtxOC's, four gigs of ram and all 15k SCSI drives. I'm selling the whole thing as soon as I can afford two quad core or two dual core Opterons, an 8800GTX, another four gigs, and liquid/pelt cooling. I love my new 26" 1900x1200 tho.
