New computer case

Postby dbEric » Tue Aug 22, 2006 12:05 pm

Here is my equipment:

AMD 3500+ @ 2.45Ghz(till I get a X2 3800+ and overclock it a tad)
Asus A8N-SLI
Corsair 1 GB Twinx1024-3200 (might buy some overclocking ram in the future)
XFX 7900GT
WD 250GB SATA2 in RAID0
Seagate 300GB IDE
Pioneer A110 DVD burner
Logitech G15 keyboard

Right now I've got a basic Antec SLK1650B for a case.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good case in the $100-$150 range. I've been looking at Thermaltake (a few models) and Antec P180. It would be nice to have a really quiet case but it's not the most important.

Possiblity:
Thermaltake Armour VA8003SWA (a bit too expensive, $206cnd)
Thermaltake Armour VA9000SWA (a bit too expensive, $228cnd)
Antec P180 ($163cnd)
Coolermaster Praetorian 730 ($177)
Thermaltake Tsunami VA3000SWA ($137cnd)
Thermaltake Tsunami VA3400SWA (400W PS, $174cnd)

I want lots of room, availability of putting atleast 4-5 HDD, upgradability for future setups, size doesn't matter, nothing too flashy, available in Canada.

Thanks guys.

Antec P180 is really nice. It's on my wishlist.

Buy yourself a nice rackmount case. Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/4U-Style-11bay-450W-SATA-DF-Rackmount-5fan-USB-Case-NEW_W0QQitemZ220018457552QQihZ012QQcategoryZ71516QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Rack cases are all I use any more. They are so easy to mount under a desk, it saves a lot of space and they are really nice to work with. I havent bought any in a while, bought a huge pallet of them one time and havent run out yet.

That might be bigger than you planned though.

Hey. I have a HUGE 12" x 13" motherboard and I swear by the chenming 601 and the cheiftech dragon. It's the same case. They are really nice. I've got space for everything, including 6 hard drives, two processors, two video cards, and the one with the window (like I've got) accomodates 5 fans.

www.frozencpu.com

both are excellent

and don't forget to mod it!
www.voyeurmods.com (best window kits, even will etch a design that you give them on uv reactive plexi)

I'm using some of these sites for my new amp rack. Watch out for that soon to come, I'll be liquid cooling/peltier cooling my PPI a404.2

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129017 I just ordered that one. (black P180)

I like how everything is in seperate compartments and they use 120MM fans.

I just got my P180 from Newegg today, and spent most of the evening setting it up. Routing cables is critical in this case!
It is super quiet though, 3 120mm fans running at 5v, heat seems managable so far. I am going to order a better 80mm for my heatsink, and another Antec tricool 120mm fan for the front of the case.
