Add to that spoke wheels, isn't that what he means by wire? IIRC, spoke wheels are generally known for not being very strong and if you start making 22's out of them, WTF?
I had spokes on a '68 jag 3.8 s type that were a tad warped. and those were 14's

Well wires can go up to 24's,and wires are made stronger now. You cant bang a curb or nothing, but theya int like they used to be from what i hear. Its my personal choice.

Cheap wires will do that...any cheaper rim will...no matter what the size...Especially with a little abuse.
