Wow-how good are these?!?

Postby Tarzann » Mon Sep 18, 2006 1:40 am

Anyone have experience with the Velodyne VLF-810? How good are the drivers in them?

Check this out:
http://overstock.com/?page=proframe&prod_id=1843789

They claim 1 1/8" excursion, I wonder if that is true. If so they should beat the TB 6.5" as a small sub driver, especially @ $25 each shipped.

Anyone have a clue how to get ahold of T/S parameters for the drivers?

wowl thats a pretty beefy lil sub. lol. 1 1/8 inch excursion for an 8 inch driver is pretty insane! lol give it a try. those would be bad in the kicks. lol

The VLF series is well regarded. It sounds like a good deal. I'd try to find info on the VLF-810 and see what size the box is.

If you do decide to purchase them, I can measure T/S params for you. PM me.

Gotta be 1-1/8 p-2-p.

edit:gah...which of course I'd assume is Xsus. So i'd guess its around 8-10mm one-way xmax, realistically.

"I just received these today, and I can tell all of those who want to know about this one vital piece of information: The reason I purchased these woofers were to use them in close proximity to my television and computer system. Though the description clearly states that these woofers are magnetically shielded, let me assure all of those that want to know that these woofers ARE NOT MAGNETICALLY SHIELDED!!!

The magnets are extremely strong, and, in my opinion, if the woofer is not at least 2 1/2 feet away from your monitor and/or computer, fully expect problems.

As far as the price goes, according to the specs that were listed, these speakers were a good buy, but without the shielding you could easily find better woofers than these on the internet, even if you paid more for the shipping!!!

I am pretty certain that they create a good sound, based on the build quality of the speakers, but I am sorely disappointed in this product, seeing that no shielding renders them (purchased as a pair) totally useless.

Hopefully, I can have these woofers returned and get my money back."

He seems happy with them.......

:cwm11: :)

It seems a bit optimistic to buy any driver without parameters (or the means to measure them).

A check on the net shows this to be a 1997 model which had a 125 watt RMS amp and overall dimensions of 16 7/8 x 14 1/4 x 14 1/4. The box had one 8" driver with a 10" passive radiator.

Thanks for the thoughts.
I know some of the Velodyne drivers are really high excursion designs, so they might be good.
I was going to pick them up just to play with them, but major unexpected expenses just popped up (sister is getting married in Cancun, gotta find about $6000 for airfare/resort/tours/etc. for the family. Anyone know how much Tequila I can bring back?:)

Maybe someone else will grab a pair and let us know how they turned out.

Buy 'em, enclose 'em, and bring them to Cancun for the wedding dance. Your gift to the bride and groom :) .
